9 a.m. tour added to KUMR schedule

The good folks at the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway are always willing to tinker with their schedule to make sure they are offering what their riders want.

And what they’ve been told, says Society member Sharon Henry, is that customers would like a tour that includes both the Underground Interpretive Centre, the Powerhouse and a ride up to the Resort and back at a price that would give families a bit of a break on price.

So all aboard the Early Bird Special.

The KUMR will offer the Early Bird Special on Friday and Saturday mornings beginning this coming weekend and continuing for the rest of the summer. The train will leave the downtown station promptly at 9 a.m.

The ride will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, Henry says and will include a “walk through the underground facility, a “walk through” the Powerhouse, and a stop at the Resort Station for a chance to check out the locomotive and take a few photos as well.

Those who want to leave the train at the Resort Station and ride or walk back down have that option, and may save their ticket for another one-way trip another day.

Children three and under will still have a free ride, tickets for children four to 12 will be $8, and all other tickets will be $15.

“For now, this Early Bird Special will be our only trip to the Resort: the 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 tours will continue to be regular mining tours, as there seems to be more demand for them,”” Henry said.
